Recommendations from our Ohana to Yours. Here are a few of our favorite places, local foods & things to do.

Food

We recommend everyone that visits the island of Kaua’i emerge themselves local foods. Without these culturally important flavors, you won’t have a true authentic Hawaiian experience. Some local foods that are the most popular here include the Loco Moco, Spam Musubi, Poi, Poke, Lau Lau, Shaved Ice, fresh raw fish, and more.. Here is are a list of a few of our favorite spots close by. If your looking for something within walking distance, Brenneke’s Beach Broiler is a 9 min walk (0.5 mi) via Pe'e Rd and Hoone Rd. It’s quite typical for our family to spend the day at Poipu Beach, watch sunset with some pupu’s at Brenneke’s and walk home ready for air-conditioning, a good shower and a soft bed.

Places

Besides the typical weather we get here on the South Side of Kaua’i, another reason people love to stay here in Poipu is the convenance of being in a central location. We are a 57 min drive to Waimea Canyon State Park located up the mountains on the West Side. Weather you are interested in great hikes, beautiful beaches or just a relaxing time away from home.. Poipu is one of the most popular locations. Here are a few of our favorite spots to go on our days off.

Activities

We know you might have already been bombarded with tones of ads or travel agents telling you to book all different sorts of “premier” activities while you visit Kaua’i, so we want to be clear, our recommendations here are just some of our family’s favorite things to do. Taking a tour boat or going zip lining defiantly has it’s perks, but here are some more local style recommendations.
